This is a new initiative ...planning virtually with young people, either those housebound due to the Coronavirus pandemic (Spring 2020) or those placed away from their family home.
Using ZOOM and graphics software I am able to support young people in exploring their lives, futures and putting together a whole life support plan.
This work is completed in a number of short (1 hour maximum) on-line meetings, these can either stand alone or centre on one key issue or be part of a 7 step process in developing a whole life support plan where the emphasis is on the voice of the young person.
This work has led to the development of a more 'shorthand' approach to planning, using simple conversations and graphics, work is starting with an increasing number of children and young people with a variety of complicated support needs and lives; poverty, exclusion from school, mental health support needs, isolation (as a result of the COVID lockdown) and challenges at home. This work is being supported by a local highly rated and respected support provider 'Support'ed', over the coming year Support'ed are looking to develop this as part of their support offer to local schools in Plymouth, with one already keen to start. This is a really exciting use of person centred planning approaches that focuses on rebuilding relationships, a more positive outlook about the future and inclusion in education.
